Responsibilities for this Position:
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an IT LAN Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
As a member of the Information Technology (IT) organization, the successful candidate will be a key contributor ensuring the network and telecommunications environment is performing to meet complex, critical business needs for ~14,000 users. The Candidate will independently manage workload from a ticketing system and will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Local Area Network (LAN) networks and telecommunications systems at the site. This role works closely with the Enterprise Network and Unified Communications teams along with Application, Server and Cloud Services teams to ensure the environment is performing optimally for the user community.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Provide technical support to maintain the network infrastructure and telecommunications within the production environment by configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting
Assist in troubleshooting and manage switching environment, wireless, and port security
Works with customers to identify problems within the LAN and Unified Communications environment and collaborate with a more senior team members for solution
Provide technical support to maintain the telecommunications environment including adds, moves and changes along with DID inventories and cross connects to 66 and 110 blocks.
Familiar with an Octel voicemail system and able to perform password resets, set up and maintain user mailboxes
Ability to maintain documentation and accuracy of inventory for IT Assets
Experience working in a structured environment that requires change control processes in accordance with company policies, for execution of implementations and changes to the network environment
Experience with layer 2 technologies.
Participate in an on-call rotation.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Understanding with Cisco Switching, Port Security authentication, and Wireless networking
Knowledge of other infrastructure components such as Windows, Unix, Storage, and VMWare and how they function within a LAN and Unified Communications environment
Knowledge of managing PBX systems
Knowledge of Skype for Business and Microsoft Unified Messaging
Knowledge of structured cabling infrastructure (LAN and Telephony).
Knowledge in Remedy IT ticketing system
Ability to work individually or collaboratively as part of a high-performance work team
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Skilled at clear and concise written and verbal communication
Intermediate level of proficiency requiring general supervision, able to perform everyday functions completely and independently, can develop and implement solutions for problems of minor complexity, shows initiative toward making changes/improvements and new assignments
Knowledge and experience in the ITIL service framework is a plus
