Elizabeth Freeman Center (EFC) is launching a new Disability Justice Program and seeks a passionate counselor/advocate to expand services and outreach for survivors of domestic and sexual violence living with disabilities in Berkshire County. People with disabilities strongly encouraged to apply.

Position responsibilities include:

• Offer responsive, affirming, accessible, and holistic counseling and advocacy for survivors with emotional, physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities, including:
o providing assistance to meet emergency needs
o offering counseling
o doing safety planning
o addressing disability-based barriers to help or healing
o advocating on issues of disability, housing, finances and benefits, children, medical and mental health care, etc.
o connecting victims with internal and external community resources (including court support, legal aid, and medical access) with follow-up as appropriate
• Expand outreach and collaboration efforts, including:
o offering community education on ways to recognize, prevent, and respond to sexual or domestic violence; getting help and support; healthy relationships and sexuality; and leadership opportunities
o offering services in accessible locations convenient for ‘one-stop shop’ access
o nurturing relationships with providers working with disability communities
o disseminating program outreach materials
o tabling at community events
• Develop a coordinated network of community members and service providers to address the risks, barriers to service, and needs of survivors with disabilities in Berkshire County
o including convening a Disability Justice Action Group
• Enhance agency capacity to provide intensive supports to survivors with disabilities
o Coordinate staff trainings and agency assessments
o Explore the use of additional assistive technologies
o Improve countywide data on the risks, access to services, and outcomes experienced by different populations of survivors living with disabilities
• Participate in internal programmatic meetings, supervision, committees, and projects, and complete any additional training recommended by Supervisor
• Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with individuals receiving EFC services and adhere to strict guidelines and protocols to ensure client confidentiality
• Complete all other duties to ensure that survivors with disabilities are safe and are provided with professional, empathetic, affirming services within the context of the agency’s mission and consistent with grant requirements
• Other duties as assigned to promote agency mission

Requirements:
• Strong connection to disability communities
• A commitment to disability justice
• Experience working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence
• Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence
• Experience in counseling, community organizing, and/or community engagement
• Excellent skills in: verbal and written communication, computers/technology, organization, and collaboration
• Ability to work well as a part of a team
• Must successfully pass Criminal Record Check-CORI and have valid Massachusetts driver’s license and reliable transportation
